IU Trustee Profile
Sue H. Talbot
Retired educator
Never has the trustee election come at a more important moment in Indiana University’s life. IU is an excellent research university but we cannot rest until it is one of the world’s truly great institutions of higher learning. Our future depends not only on academic excellence, path-breaking research, thriving international outreach and economic development enterprises, it also rests squarely upon strong leadership.
IU must:
1. Provide access to all qualified in-state/out-of-state and international students while systematically increasing racial and gender equity.
2. Investigate additional scholarship programs for need-based and merit-qualified students by partnering with state and federal funding sources.
3. Assure that our degrees maintain the status of excellence IU is known for by elevating admissions standards appropriately for each of our campuses.
IU is the leader in supporting the Indiana Life Science Initiative and creating a climate for world-class research while bringing high-end jobs and economic benefits to our state and country. Recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty is critical to maintaining that reputation. As we begin this next academic year with a new university president and new IUAA president, our aspirations for success are high, whether in the classroom, in the laboratory or in our athletic endeavors.
We couldn’t do any of this without the support of the IU family, especially you, our alumni. As a former national chair of the IU Alumni Association and founding director of Hoosiers for Higher Education, I share your passion for this incredible university. I am honored to represent you as a member of the Board of Trustees. During the past six years, I have served on each board committee and recently chaired the Presidential Search Committee. Doing so has been a profoundly meaningful experience and I deeply appreciate your support.
