Strategic Initiatives 2006-07

Goals 2006-07

  1. Significantly enhance Alumni Data Center.
    1. Formally launch the Indiana University Alumni Data Center (ADC) by August 31
    2. Develop the Alumni Data Center inside of OneStart by August 31
  2. Launch new lifetime e-mail service for alumni.
    1. Design and develop splash and registration pages
    2. Soft launch to IUAA staff and regional directors on July 15
    3. Soft launch new graduate e-mail on July 30
    4. Launch lifetime alumni e-mail to alumni on September 1
  3. Establish alumni section in OneStart (university portal).
    1. Design and develop alumni view
    2. Finalize alumni authentication into OneStart
    3. Inform constituencies assisting alumni services inside of OneStart
  4. Develop models to evaluate current and proposed IUAA programs and services.
  5. Increase diversity among paid staff and involvement of volunteer leadership, especially in the Chapter program.
    1. Work more closely with Clarence Boone Jr. and IUAA senior administration to develop comprehensive plan for increasing diversity among chapter leadership; begin implementing plan 2006–07
    2. Continue to help constituent societies and affiliate groups to increase minority representation on boards
    3. Work with the IU Office of Admissions to recruit more minority alumni student recruiters
    4. Work closely with the Student Alumni Association to get minority student groups to take part in the SAA
    5. Design and/or revise comprehensive efforts to get more minority alumni engaged in IUAA activities through close work with chapters, constituent societies, affiliate groups, and SAA on all campuses
    6. Continue to enhance diversity among leadership of targeted alumni club boards
    7. Continue to recruit and recommend minority candidates for Executive Council and the DASA
    8. Continue to assist the IUAA human resources director in identifying viable candidates for professional, clerical, and part-time student staff positions
  6. Evaluate and act on recommendations that will be made by IUAA task forces whose reports will be made during the fiscal year.
    1. Work harder to keep recommendations from 2004 Alumni Clubs Study Task Force at the forefront of goals and new policies for alumni chapters program in 2006–07
    2. Complete Constituent Society Task Force work and submit report
    3. Continue to oversee implementation of the IUB student study recommendations
    4. Coordinate regional campuses’ constituent study in 2006–07
    5. Implement assigned Strategic Directions Task Force 2005–2010 initiatives and monitor and report its progress
  7. Develop additional resources for IUAA operations.
    1. Work more closely with the Membership Department to develop membership strategies that target specific strategic chapter areas
    2. Continue to help constituent societies and affiliate groups to increase IUAA dues-paying memberships
    3. Define role of philanthropy in providing resources for IUAA (SI)
    4. Develop policy and guidelines for sponsorships
    5. Develop 1854 Society charter, goals, and Web site
    6. Design a comprehensive online resource for human relations (Inside IUAA)
    7. Prepare a supervisor’s handbook as a companion piece to the Personnel Policies Manual
    8. Explore new membership payment options by presenting proposal to the IU Office of the Bursar and evaluating MBA class proposal
    9. Analyze and possibly develop new dues structure via IUAA Dues Committee
  8. Develop ways to help IU with its major initiatives.
    1. Coordinate with IU PR Coalition members on the timing and delivery of messages to external audiences
    2. Help promote the Health and Life Sciences campaign
    3. Promote IU Day at the Indiana State Fair — Aug. 10, 2006
    4. Incorporate more health and life sciences into chapter programming
  9. Enhance IUAA communications and lifelong learning opportunities.
    1. Launch new IUAA Web site
    2. Create yearly communications calendar for IUAA
    3. Publish IUAA communications plan
    4. Develop an IUAA communication resource center
    5. Develop Lifelong Learning online (with IU partners)
    6. Redesign online presence of the Indiana Alumni Magazine
    7. Create image piece to communicate where we are going
    8. Design electronic holiday greeting
    9. Create/repurpose media for new video panel in the DAC library
    10. Build case statement (with CIO) that demonstrates the mission and value of the IUAA
    11. Work with IU departments and IU’s alumni groups to communicate opportunities for engagement; create online ‘want ads’ for volunteer opportunities/needs
    12. Develop ways to engage alumni in communication with IU, IUAA, and each other; develop audiocasts and a discussion group
    13. Improve IUAA’s visual presence on all of IU’s regional campuses
    14. Look for ways to encourage participation; find and implement new programs and services that encourage alumni participation in the IUAA’s online community (in partnership with the IT and Membership departments)
    15. Offer two in-house training workshops on e-mail communications
    16. Begin recommending refinements to e-communications based on data analysis (open rates, clicks-through)
  10. Engage in more IUAA communications to students.
    1. Increase e-mail and survey services to student programs
    2. Improve text-only e-mail services and reports
    3. Work closely with the SAA to implement joint projects, events, and programs between SAA and the regional alumni chapters
    4. Successfully implement new SAA fundraiser, the Indiana Agenda
    5. Continue collaborations with IUB administration on student leadership vision
    6. Enhance SAA leaders’ role within IUAA
    7. Increase student member involvement at SAA programs and events
