Community Service

IUAA Can Help
To assist chapters with their programs, the IUAA will provide 50 percent of the postage (bulk rate) and printing costs for community service related mailings. Please do not release alumni lists or mailing labels to any outside organization. Also chapters should not do direct individual fund-raising for another organization. However, proceeds from a chapter event or raffle may be contributed to a charity.

IUAA alumni chapters have always embraced community service activities to assist individuals in need, or support a worthy cause. Through fundraising, donations, and other means of support, chapters play an important role with community service. Participation in community service projects and programs is a worthwhile chapter activity that identifies your chapter as a supportive member of the community. So scout around and find the project that's right for your chapter and then go to work. Show your community that Indiana Cares! Examples of such activities include:

  • Cooking meals at a Ronald McDonald House Volunteers participate in cooking meals for those in need
  • Habitat for Humanity Through building homes for the less fortunate, volunteers lend a helping hand
  • Bell Ringing/Salvation Army During the holiday season, alumni volunteers contribute time through bell ringing for a worthwhile cause
  • Toys for Tots Providing toys for needy children during the holidays, volunteers reach out to the community
  • Bowling for Big Brothers/Big Sisters Sponsoring a child during a bowling event is a great way for alumni volunteers to help a child
  • Food Drive Sponsoring a food drive is a great way to give back to the community
  • Blood Drive Donating blood is a worthwhile cause along with helping to defeat Purdue in the blood donor challenge
  • Shoe Drive Big or small, old or new, shoes can always be used
  • Adopt-A-Road Adopt a portion of a road and keep it beautiful throughout the year
  • Flood Relief Project Volunteer time to help those affected by natural disasters
  • Relay For Life Support the fight against cancer by walking to help find a cure
  • Race for the Cure Participate in the fight against cancer by running or walking for a cure
  • Hoosier Halloween Volunteer time at a local hospital around Halloween and brighten children's faces through pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, mummy wrap, candy guess, and pin the nose on the pumpkin
  • Donate a Magazine Subscription While visiting those in the hospital parents, siblings and friends enjoy reading magazines while visiting loved ones
  • Clean up of Public Park Help keep community parks beautiful by volunteering to clean a local park
  • Public Television Auctions Help man the phones for a public television auction in your area
  • Donate IU Basketball Tickets Make a charitable contribution by donating IU Basketball tickets to a local charity
  • Juvenile Diabetes Walkathon Donate time to help the fight against a cruel disease by walking for a cure
  • Children's Bereavement Center Pete & People Walk
  • Clothing Drives Providing clothing for those in need
  • Indiana Food Bank Help fellow Hoosiers by volunteering time at a local Indiana Food Bank location
  • Adopt Families/Pets During the holiday season, adopt an individual who is less fortunate. Providing a home for a pet is also a great way to support the community
