Why I chose IU
After visiting several college campuses, it became apparent that IU was the right
place for me. The campus was beautiful and the city of Bloomington was very charming.
The people were very friendly and helpful, which made me feel comfortable.
My major was education, and it was important to find a university that had
an excellent program. IU has one of the best in the country.
Favorite memories of IU
Some of my best memories are from my days spent at IU. It is difficult to name just one.
Parading down Kirkwood, particularly on my 21st birthday, or one of my cooking
experiences with a dear friend — setting off the smoke alarm in our apartment and
running outside with a smoking frying pan — won't be forgotten anytime soon.
I will also never forget the time we took a U-Haul from one apartment to the
next and were stopping traffic everywhere because we were inexperienced U-Haul drivers.
Advice to undergraduates
Your experience at IU will be amazing and truly memorable. Get involved is the
best advice I can give. You could be active with your dorm, the school you plan to
graduate from, and the Student Alumni Association. These are a few activities you
could research before you even get to campus. Always ask for help if you feel you need it.
We hope you will consider being a part of your (home base) local chapter's alumni group.
I am the president of the Columbus, Ohio, Chapter, and we always try to let the new
students know that we are here for them now and when they graduate. Last, but not least,
take a lot of pictures and label them so you will remember everyone and everything.
You will treasure those memories forever!
Why the IU Alumni Association is important to me
The IU Alumni Association is very important to me because it keeps me connected to the
university. While at IU, I received an excellent education and met wonderful friends
whom I cherish to this day. My college experience changed my life. For me, it is so
important to give back to the university that was so good to me. Being the president
of the Columbus, Ohio, Chapter for six years has been a wonderful and rewarding
experience. I really enjoy networking with alumni in my hometown. IU will forever
be a part of me, and I am glad to give back to one of the best universities in the country.
