BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Two Indiana University students will receive the Charles and Jo Ann Linsmith Scholarship from the IU Alumni Association on June 15. Olutope Omosegbon, of Indianapolis, and Alyse Vail, of Greenfield, Ind., will each receive a $1,500 scholarship.
Omosegbon is a junior at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and a member of the Student Organization for Alumni Relations. She is also involved in the IUPUI Spanish Club, the African Student Alliance, several science- and medicine-related organizations, and numerous volunteer activities. She is majoring in biology and intends to pursue a career in medicine.
Vail, a junior at IU Bloomington, served as director of programming and alumni relations for the Student Alumni Association during 2006-07 and will be director of outreach next spring. She is a student manager at the IU Auditorium and is also involved in Habitat for Humanity. Vail is majoring in marketing and international business and will study abroad this fall at Corvinus University in Budapest, Hungary.
The Linsmith Scholarship is open to the children and grandchildren of IUAA staff members, to student leaders of IUAA-sponsored organizations, and to IUAA student employees. Selection is based on outstanding character, financial need, and academic achievement.
The Linsmith Scholarship was established by Jo Ann Linsmith, of Bradenton, Fla. She and her husband, the late Charles Linsmith, served Indiana University as devoted alumni. Jo Ann helped found and served as president of the former IU Alumni Club of Sarasota and Manatee Counties (Fla.), which is now the Florida Suncoast Chapter of the IUAA. She served on the IUAA Executive Council and received the IUAA President’s Award in 2000. Through the Linsmith Scholarships, she wishes to recognize the service and devotion of the association’s staff members and students.
Omosegbon and Vail will receive their awards at a reception and dinner on June 15 at the Indiana University Auditorium in Bloomington.
The Indiana University Alumni Association is dedicated to serving the university and its diverse alumni, students, and friends. As one of the nation’s largest alumni organizations, serving more than 495,000 graduates worldwide, the IUAA provides many programs and services to its members, non-member alumni, and the university.
