IU Nursing Alumni Reunion Weekend

Class Gift

An important part of any reunion weekend is taking the time to reminisce and think about what you gained from your experiences in nursing school. When thinking about these opportunities, we hope that each class is thankful and sees this reunion weekend as an opportunity to give back to the school by helping today’s students reap the rewards of becoming a graduate.

Although traditionally classes at the School of Nursing have primarily used their 50th Reunion to showcase their support, you certainly don’t need to wait until then. In fact, we have found that many classes have benefited from planning ahead, and we encourage you to consider using this year’s reunion as an opportunity to begin thinking about what you and your classmates might want to accomplish down the road.

A class gift brings honor to your class and provides an opportunity for class members to participate in the reunion even if they can’t attend the weekend (although attendance is certainly encouraged). Further, by spreading gifts to your reunion fund over more than one year, your class can reach a goal that might at first seem unattainable, making it possible for you to make a substantial difference in the lives of those who will benefit from your support.

Please take some time to think about what has been important to you, as a class, and what kind of legacy you might want to leave. For example, you may want to support the faculty’s teaching, research, or community outreach projects; student scholarships based on merit and/or financial need; or renovation/maintenance of space within the School of Nursing. There are countless possibilities, limited only by your imagination and willingness to work together.

There are probably several classmates that come to mind as the “best people” to work with the development officer in determining the various needs of the school, possible naming opportunities for the gift, and how best to invite all class members to make a contribution toward whatever goal you set. Please consider who those people might be so that when you are all together you can reach some consensus. Who has provided leadership in your class since you graduated? Whose life circumstances would allow them to volunteer a small amount of time to serve on a committee to move forward a project like this?

All class gifts will be announced during the alumni weekend in order to recognize the efforts of the class, unless the group chooses not to be recognized. With your input, we hope that the reunion weekend will develop into a successful weekend not only in terms of reunion events but also in growing support for the school and its students.
